*37794 Albert Edward W (Bert) Downes -passed away due to cancer, and had his final parade on Saturday 4 August at Drayton, Toowoomba.Bert served as a Gunner with 105 Fd Bty 1962-64 before joining 102 Fd Bty in Malaysia1964-65. His other active service was as a Bombardier on the guns with 108 Fd Bty, 4 Fd Regt RAA, in SVN 1967-68.
During his later service he was accidentally wounded. After leaving the
Army Bert moved to the Toowoomba area to a property called Walsom Stud. He was a Life Subscriber of the 105 Fd Bty Association.
Bert was the prime mover behind the first 108 Fd Bty (SVN) reunion at
Wacol in 1988 and did a magnificent job, one which kicked off the existing
association and created the precedent for the many great reunions that
have followed. He was planning to attend the 40th RTA reunion at Woolgoolga, but he has now marched out for the last time. We are in his debt.
